I haven’t been posting that much here. I was trying to keep it half professional and half random things that I’m interested in, and the work part has been the hardest to write about.
But it is not because I have not been productive at work. I have been more productive than ever now with AI, and that is probably the biggest reason I have been writing less.
Today, a good AI setup can do wonders. It can find the deepest root causes of issues and also do a lot of new work by itself, so while I fix things faster, I don’t get the deep understanding that I got before. I get a summary, but I don’t go through all the frustration and the phase where you feel proud to have found the solution. Because of that, I don’t feel I learned anything meaningful and worth sharing, so I don’t write about it.
I write so I can put my thoughts into structured text and maybe help someone out there. But with so much context change, I also don’t have organized thoughts to write about.
Another thing is that AI writes so much better than I do, and if I want to give you the best here, it makes more sense to have AI do a lot. But then, it is not my blog anymore, just some other thing that I have little interest in keeping.
I’ve used varying levels of AI on this blog already. I have posts with no AI at all, some posts with minimal proofreading and even one or two that were almost all AI-organized.
Right now, my thought is that I should only use AI to do mechanical stuff like tagging and organizing, and at most use it to proofread and maybe give me insights, but not to change anything in the text.
If I’m to be invested and interested in posting, I need to really want to write myself. It will probably not be as good as AI, but it will be my shit, not AI shit.
I also need to get rid of the idea that all posts are going to be long, complete and really well crafted. I probably need to write smaller, simpler and lower-effort posts instead of waiting for the perfect one.
This post is an attempt at doing it. I also felt that I needed to rant a bit, and this is maybe a good outlet for it. I know that probably no one will even read this one, but just ranting already makes it useful.
Cheers.
AI disclosure: I wrote this post myself. I used Claude to proofread, generate the metadata and related-post links, and give feedback on the structure and ending.
